The U.S. does pump out some movies worthy of waiting in line for, but so does Europe. Hollywood is not the only game in town, so let’s take a look at seven of the best European films. Feel free to disagree or applaud loudly for my picks. Either choice is cool with me.
Jo Nesbø’s Headhunters
“A perfect Thriller.“
What do you get when you mix a headhunter from Norway with a fancy for art theft? A nice film with a strange character trying to navigate his home life as he juggles a real career with his shady side.
“Suspenseful Thriller with a Twist.“
If you are like me, you can appreciate some unpredictable plot twists. This film will be for you if that is the case. If you have this one figured out early on, then you should seek a position with the FBI.
“A low-budget entertaining film.“
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before….guy has to deliver a package of some sort and has misadventures along the way. This movie follows that scenario, but with a different feel, as a kid is hired to simply transport seven boxes for a 100 dollar payment. Sounds easy enough until he realizes his life hangs on what is actually inside.
Torrente, the Stupid Arm of the Law
“Funntastic bad cop comedy.“
If you are opposed to crude humorthen you are against comedy all together and should loosen up a bit. This cop comedy mixes in some action as it tells a story of a slimy cop trying to get back some street cred to impress a hot lady that moves in next door. The title makes it worthy of a watch. Don’t take the film or yourself too seriously and this will be a fun one.
In China They Eat Dogs
“A Violent Danish Movie.“
Another EU film with a wacky title to go along with the fun comedy. Dark humor keeps this movie rolling as it weaves a storyline of a heist set up by some low IQ folks. Many fans of this film compare it to “Pulp Fiction” from back in the day. That is high praise that is gained from the irreverent tone of the movie.
Funny movie that capitalizes on a good concept. Cops that are about to lose their jobs due to the lack of crime in their small town is a great idea to create a story around. The comedy comes in when these geniuses with badges go too far in escalating the “crime”.
I am a sucker for a good con game. Not in real life! But in the world of cinema a great con game can carry me all the way to the end. This story centers around a stamp collector getting hooked by a couple of slick con artists. But who gets conned changes more than once in this one.
